Mission Festival

Description:  The goal of this event is to stimulate and maintain interest in mission efforts supported by the congregation and/or Lutheran Church Missouri Synod by planning an annual Mission Festival.
 

Tasks Required:
 
1.) Publicity
Participants are expected to work with the Mission Festival Chairs to determine and develop appropriate publicity to inform the community of the St. Lorenz Mission Festival. Participants would then work with the local newspapers and other media to deliver the desired message at the appropriate time.
 
2.) Call Workers
This volunteer will be part of the volunteer call committee, which will call congregational members on the telephone requesting assistance in one or more areas associate with the annual Mission Festival.
 
3.) Mission Display
Participants are asked to help put up the tent and display areas on Saturday morning 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Participants may also be asked to assist guests and members during the display period from 10:00 am through 4:00 pm.  Final disassembly and take-down must then occur and the grounds returned to their original condition after Mission Festival has concluded.
 
4.) Facilities
These positions require manual labor to clean the dining halls and Churchgrove and prepare it for Mission Festival in late August.  Participants will clean the buildings, pick up trash, and assist other Mission Festival committees in setting up their job functions during the morning and afternoon preceding Mission Festival.
 
5.) Sound System
Locate and move the sound system components from St. Lorenz School to Churchgrove.  Hang the speakers and set up the equipment prior to the first service.  Test and operate the sound system during each of the services. Take down and return the equipment to St. Lorenz Schoo.
 
6.) Food Preparation
Participants will work with other members of the congregation peeling potatoes, shredding cabbage, chopping onions, peppers, etc. as raw materials for the preparation of potato salad and coleslaw and other side dishes for the Chicken Barbecue served as part of Mission Festival.  Participants are also asked to help with cleanup after both sessions.
 
7.)Chicken BBQ
Prepare the BBQ pit and stock with charcoal.  Prepare chicken for the BBQ within Health Department guidelines.  Remove the chicken and store in ovens in the Dining Hall. Cleanup of the BBQ racks and pit after cooking is complete.
 
8.) Dining Room
Several positions are available within this classification depending upon desire to serve as: table wait staff, BBQ takeout preparation, serve and replenish food on the self-serve tables located in the dining halls, and preparation and cleanup of the dining halls.
 
9.) Fast Foods
These positions are need to be involved on Saturday morning for setup and stocking of the Fast Food booth. On Sunday, participants will cook hot dogs and bratwurst for sale along with popcorn, pop, candy, and other fast food items.  Participants are responsible for take-down and safe storage fo remaining food items after conclusion of Mission Festival.
 
10.) Tickets
Procure change and set up ticket selling station. Sell tickets before and after service in the Churchgrove. Account for all monies received and turn in to the Church Office. Publish a one-page report stating number of dinners sold, monies received, etc.
