Dear Jesus, 

      How this story encourages me!  Every day I have so much to be forgiven for.  Thank You for Your grace and mercy.  Parenting is hard for me.  And growing up is hard formykids, too.

 

O Lord,

In the quiet of this house, in the shadows of fears, in the darkness of my limited ability to understand the present or see the future, I remember Your name.  Your lovely names, my God, surround my sleeping children like lighted candles:

 

Creator Lord,

As my children grow up, I pray that like the psalmists, they will find Your fingerprints all over the world.  May they see Your handiwork in every corner of ordinary life and praise You!

      May they notice your touch in the nature that surrounds them each day as they walk to school.  And when they peek at the stars before going to bed, may they sense Your awesome power.  For "the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands"  (Ps 19:1)...............

 

    It is hard to understand how a parent could love one child and not the other, as Isaac and Rebekah appeared to do.  And yet I know I show favoritism, usually without even realizing it (James 2:9)!

    Today I pray that You would show both parents in this house how we can be like-minded, sharing the same love and purpose for our kids (Phil  2:2).  When one child seems to enjoy our interests more than another or is taking more of our time, show us how to be sensitive to the other children so they don't feel overlooked or neglected.

"St. Lorenz" is the German spelling for St. Lawrence who was a deacon of the Roman church.  He was under persecution by the Roman Emperor Valerian in 258 A.D.

Have you seen the cards for Emily yet?   In last week's memo it was explained that the students at St. Lorenz worked together on a project in honor of their fellow student, Emily Long, and her father, Dan Long.  Emily and Dan were killed in a car accident last March on their way to school.
