We will spending the day with our faith teams beginning about 10:30 A.M. Please send along a sack lunch for an outdoor picnic. To prepare for a fun day, children may choose to bring a water bottle and/or sunscreen. We encourage the children to bring dried goods to build food pyramids. The collection will go to Saginaw Rescue Mission. Each team will be discussing a specific color or indicator for their team. Your child may choose to find this color in the closet to bring team spirit.
Kindergarten Program Tuesday, May 20 @ 6:30 p.m. in the school's gymnasium.
Results from this spring's achievement tests are available to pick up from your child's homeroom teacher through Friday, May 9th. After that time, the results will be available in the school office.
Our congregation is currently observing the 50 Days Ablaze program within our worship services and Bible studies. Our emphasis is to share the Word of God and the precious gift of salvation with each other and to reach out to others as well.
As I talk to congregation members it is heartening to hear how they feel that this is drawing us together around God’s Word and strengthening personal faith as well. In our busy lives it is often too easy to separate ourselves from Bible study and from each other. There are so many things to fill the hours of our day! However, Hebrews 10:25 tells us that we are not to give up meeting together but to encourage one another “and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” There is an urgency for us to continue to “meet” with God in prayer and Bible study. There is also an urgency to make sure that others know about God’s salvation made possible for us through Jesus Christ as well! Scripture is full of verses that speak of this sharing. In Psalm 118 the psalmist talks about proclaiming what the Lord has done. In 1 Timothy 4:2 Paul encourages Timothy to “Preach the Word.” Mark 16:15 tells us to “Go into the world and preach the good news to all creation.”
Sometimes we think that only grown-ups can do that but that is not so. People of all ages—yes, children as well—have the command of God to make sure that the word gets out to all. One of the earliest verses that we commit to memory comes from Matthew 28:19. It instructs and encourages us to “go and make disciples of all nations . . .teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
So, are we Ablaze with this important message? Are we in the Word and prayer to remind ourselves of God’s message? Are we sharing it everywhere we go? Do we feel we are not up to the job? 1 Cor. 2:13 assures us that we will speak “not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit.” So, let’s get to it!

You are welcome to join us for chapel on Wednesday mornings in the gym at 8:10 a.m. Vicar Fay will lead our worship on May 7 and Mr. Anderson will be our worship leader on May 14. If you are unable to join us in the gym, remember that the service is covered on our cable station.
The testing results are here and may be picked up from your child’s homeroom teacher during the week of May 2-9. After the 9th, they will be available in the school office.
We have received the results from the MEAP tests that were administered to the 7th and 8th grade students. Parents may pick up a report from the school office. Some questions have been shared with me as to the validity of comparing scores from St. Lorenz students with other schools who take the test. Let me simply say that although our faculty finds the MEAP assessment valuable in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of our curriculum, we do not as a school choose to adjust the chronological order that subject matter is taught to align with the MEAP tests. It continues to be our philosophy that allotting extra time in the fall to help our students prepare for these tests is not in the best academic interest of our students.
An 8-session class August 4-14 will be offered for students entering Grades 3-8 next fall who find math frustrating or just “didn’t get” a particular skill during the school year. The program provides both an individual program in skills work and fun group activities. The class will be held in the morning—specific times yet to be determined. Contact Mrs. Block in Student Services at mblock@stlorenz.org or 652-6141. Registration forms available at the school office. The cost for the program is $60. Registration deadline: June 1.
All plants may be picked up on Saturday, May 17, from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
As of May 5, twenty-three lunch days are left! The following guide indicates how much is needed in your child’s lunch account till the end of the school year:
Grades 1-3 ($1.75 ea.) $40.25
Grades 4-8 ($1.90 ea.) $43.70
Additional menu items: Ala carte sandwiches (75¢ each); additional milk (30¢ each). If you have any questions pertaining to your child(ren)’s lunch account, please call the school office.
Please note: All outstanding balances, including lunch accounts, must be current in order to release final report cards.
The theme for this year is: Friendship Trek, the dates will be June 23-27, and the location will be in our very own Churchgrove (behind/north of the school and fields). Here, in addition to getting to hang out with friends from around school and town, kids will have the opportunity to grow closer to Jesus, our friend forever! By the way, we are still in search of able-bodied volunteers to help make this happen.
Your children will have VBS registration forms sent home with them today. If you would like extra forms for inviting or encouraging neighbors, friends, and other family members to attend this year, those will be available at the church and school offices. We really would welcome you to do so.
In the meantime, if you have questions with regard to VBS or wish to volunteer, please contact Vicar Fay at kfay@stlorenz.org, 652-6142 x 135 (O), 652-4737 (H), or come talk to me in person. Hope to see you in the Churchgrove this summer!

On March 17, the first graders took a field trip to Rummelwald to learn how maple syrup is made. We watched Mr. Rummel drill into a tree. We saw how the clear sap drips into the buckets. Then we went into the steamy sugar shack where the sweet smell of boiling sap filled the air. Our tour ended with an ice cream treat topped with warm maple syrup. It was an enjoyable trip. We have used the experience as a springboard for writing projects.
Grade 1 will be singing at the 8:00am service on Sunday, April 13th. We will meet in the choir room in the basement of the church at 7:45am. Hope to see you there!
